COWF REMOTE EDUCATION PROGRAM FOR REFUGEES & MARGINALIZED STUDENTS
MAJOR SUPPORT FROM UNIQUE ZAN FOUNDATION & AGILITY
EDUCATION CHALLENGES IN THE MENA REGION
Only 2 out of 10 refugee adolescents, attend school. (Source: Refugee education in crisis: UNHCR.) In an effort to combat this problem in Jordan, which is home to one of the largest refugee populations, COWF aims to help refugee and marginalized students continue their high school education at their own pace regardless of their circumstances. A first of its kind initiative, COWF is the only non-profit in Jordan partnered with an accredited education platform. As of October 2020, we have successfully enrolled and launched two cohorts. Three additional cohorts will be joining our program in December January 2021. Our waitlist of students continues to grow and we ask for your support to help deliver access to education.
Providing Education Access for Refugee and Vulnerable Youth
Refugee and vulnerable host community children continue to encounter significant obstacles when it comes to accessing education. These challenges include overcrowded classrooms, long travel distances to nearby schools, subpar educational standards, and financial constraints.
The COVID-19 pandemic and its consequent school closures and socio-economic impacts have disproportionately affected vulnerable young individuals.
In August 2020, a partnership was established between COWF and Abwaab EdTech to provide support in the form of high-quality education for these vulnerable children, utilizing Abwaab's online learning platform.
Our initial pilot program successfully reached 33 students, yielding notable results. These students, who previously struggled, are now graduating from local public high schools with above-average grades.
As a result, the program has expanded to include over seven cohorts, with more growth on the horizon.
